Memphis police are investigating an incident in which a high school basketball coach is accused of striking a student during a fight at a game earlier this week.

The altercation occurred Tuesday night during a matchup between Fairley High School and Hamilton High School at Hamilton’s gym. Police say a parent contacted officers the following day and reported that her son had been assaulted during the chaos.

According to the report, tensions escalated over the game’s score, leading to a fight involving players from both teams. During the disturbance, the mother alleges that a Fairley coach approached her son and hit him in the face. Authorities confirmed the student was not seriously injured and did not require medical treatment.

As of now, no charges have been filed.

Video recorded by spectators shows the confrontation beginning near center court before spreading toward the stands, with security personnel attempting to break it up.

Memphis-Shelby County Schools acknowledged the incident and said it is under review. District officials stated that student and staff safety remains a priority and that the situation will be handled according to school system policies.
