The Vilonia community is grieving the loss of former Eagle basketball player Ethan Dietz, who died on the morning of November 25 after being injured during a Connors State College game on November 22. Ethan was taken to the hospital after the injury but passed away three days later.

According to a press release from Connors State, the college has canceled several upcoming games in the wake of Ethan’s death. The cancellations include the women’s basketball game on Tuesday November 25 at Neosho County, the men’s game on Wednesday November 26 against SAU Tech, the women’s game on Saturday November 29 against Labette County, and the men’s game on Monday December 1 against Grayson.

Ethan grew up in Conway and played his high school career at Vilonia, where he built a reputation for hard work, leadership, and steady character. Former teammates remember him as someone who stayed late in the gym and made a consistent effort to support others both on and off the court.

At Connors State, Ethan was in his sophomore year and continued to earn respect for the same traits he showed in high school. His coaches noted his commitment to academics, the game, and the people around him.

Connors State also announced that a candlelight gathering will be held on campus, and counseling services are available for students and staff affected by the loss.

Ethan is remembered as a dedicated teammate, a respected student, and a young man whose influence reached far beyond the scoreboard.
