EPC and Cross County Battle for Their First 2A State Title

The Arkansas 2A state championship takes over War Memorial Stadium at noon on Friday, December 5th, and it features a matchup that Northeast Arkansas has been waiting for. East Poinsett County and Cross County, two schools barely forty four miles apart and bitter conference rivals in 2A 2, are set to collide with a state title hanging in the balance.

EPC rolls in at 11 and 1 with one of the strongest three year stretches in the entire classification. The Warriors claimed regional championships in 2023, 2024, and 2025, but despite all that success they have never finished the year with a state championship trophy. This is their best shot yet.

Cross County sits at 11 and 2, playing their best football in nearly a decade. The Thunderbirds have not won a regional championship since 2016, but they have fought their way back into the spotlight and powered through the bracket to reach Little Rock. Like EPC, they have never captured a state title.

The familiarity between these teams adds even more fuel to an already high stakes showdown. They know each other well. They have taken the same long conference road. Now they meet again, only this time under the biggest spotlight in Arkansas high school football.
